They said it is the colour of the year. For me it is the colour of my mother’s suit coordinated with purple leather stillettos at a wedding in ’96. It is her favourite colour. She had bob-cut blonde hair and it matched so good with that skirt & jacket. It took me a few painting classes to understand that yellow and violet are complementary.

I love all the colours of the rainbow. I don’t have a favourite one.

Still, i realised that the only purple things in my wardrobe are a hat and a pair of tights and one vintage earring.

I have no idea where i  have the tights from or the earring, but i know for sure the story of my hat.

The hat was received as a present from a holocaust survivor in France at a marche-aux-puces. He also told me that his grandfather lived in Sibiu for a while. IMAGINE what a story!Sometimes you just have to stop and listen. He was selling his apartment in Paris and he was getting rid of all his belongings. I bought a vintage bag from him, it was quiet expensive and i had no more money for the purple hat. He watched me while i was trying it and he said that his wife would trust me to wear it so he just offered it to me as a gift. This hat is in my wardrobe for 5 years already and i wore it twice, but i still cannot give it away because of it’s story.

Now thanks to Pantone i think i will wear it more than ever, so i decided to show you a few ways to match it with 3 types of tops. Pink will always work with purple because both of them have red inside of them. Orange is just yellow with red so…it’s matching by default.

So if you are not into wearing this colour from head to toes, just add an accessory to your wardrobe like a hat, a scarf, a pair of shoes or a bag and coordinate it with your looks. For example you can wear a little black dress with a pair of purple shoes. A yellow pullover with ultraviolet earrings and so on…

Oh, and if you have brown, hazle eyes don’t forget to wear purple. amethist shades of make-up.

A few things you should know about this colour:

Purple relates to the imagination and spirituality. It stimulates the imagination and inspires high ideals. It is an introspective color, allowing us to get in touch with our deeper thoughts.

From a color psychology perspective, purple and violet promote harmony of the mind and the emotions, contributing to mental balance and stability, peace of mind, a link between the spiritual and the physical worlds, between thought and activity. Violet and purple support the practice of meditation.

The color violet relates to the fantasy world, and a need to escape from the practicalities of life. It is the daydreamer escaping from reality.

The color purple is specifically associated with royalty and the nobility, creating an impression of luxury, wealth and extravagance.

Purple has power. It has a richness and quality to it that demands respect. Purple is ambitious and self-assured, the leader.

It is associated with transformation of the soul and the philosophers of the world are often attracted to it.

In the meaning of colors, purple and violet represent the future, the imagination and dreams, while spiritually calming the emotions. They inspire and enhance psychic ability and spiritual enlightenment, while, at the same time, keeping us grounded.

Whatever you will chose to wear, just show your true colours! Don’t be afraid of them!
